Mr. Cheapee's Blind Wine Tasting
#1 Dona Paula Malbec/Shiraz Estate $14.99 bottle
Deep red violet color. Aroma: Dark chocolate, blackberry and plum flavors that are integrated
with spice, mint and a hint of licorice. Palate: Concentrated, with fine balance and harmony and
a long finish.
#2 Casillero del Diablo Privada Reserve $16.99 bottle
Blackcurrant, red cherry and plum flavours from Cabernet Sauvignon combine with Syrah endowed fresh black fruits, and traces of white pepper and spice. The 14-month aging in French barrels adds another layer of aromatic complexity with hints of vanilla, smoke and cedar.
Deep ruby. Cherry-vanilla, cassis and mint on the nose. Deep dark fruit flavors are complicated by succulent herbs and a slow-building licorice quality. Oak spices creep up on the finish but the fruit maintains the upper hand. Drink this now, for the lush fruit. SCORE: 87
#3 Santa Ema Cabernet/Merlot Barrel Select $11.99 bottle
Ruby red in color with aromas that are complex and deep. You can feel soft notes of plum,
blackberry and some vanilla mixed with a pleasant toasty taste in your nose. The palate is
delicious and elegant with mature tannis, good structure and a persistent finale
A focused, polished style, with coffee and cocoa notes followed by a solid core of black cherry and red currant fruit. The finish lets a roasted vanilla hint linger. Drink now through 2010. SCORE: 88
